Quarterback Shaun Hill and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a three year contract that is believed to be worth around $2 million per season.  Hill looked decent as he played the last three games of the season for the 49ers.  Right now he is recovering from finger surgers, but is expected to be 100% once mini camps start up.

Hill could battle Alex Smith for the starting position, but Smith is the clear leader as long as he comes back healthy after shoulder surgery.  Hill is a decent backup, that is about it if you ask me.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed five players to new contracts.  Thomas Clayton (RB), Markus Curry (DB), Jerard Rabb (WR), and Dominique Zeigler (WR) all were on the 49ers practice squad last season.  The 49ers also signed a player from the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad and he is Cooper Wallace (TE).

Lol, I really don’t know what to make of this move to be honest.  The 49ers have released Partick Estes and signed LeRon McCoy to the active roster.

McCoy, was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2005 draft by the Arizona Cardinals out of Indiana (PA). As a rookie in 2005, McCoy played in ten games with four starts as a receiver and special teams player. He spent the 2006 season on injured reserve with a thumb injury suffered in training camp.

Hmm ok whatever, is he really doing to help out the offense? I doubt it.

The 49ers have released Zac Herold who was on the practice squad and signed another tight end by the name of Zac.

Zac Alcorn was originally signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He spent the first part of the season on Green Bay’s practice squad before being activated to the 53-man playing roster last November.  Alcorn played in six of the Packers’ last seven games, mostly on special teams.

Dur preseason with the Packers everyone on the Packers squad said that Alcorn had the best hands they had seen in a while.  I have to wonder why they let him go and signed two other tight ends to their practice squad though. Time will tell but, welcome to the 49er family Zac Alcorn!

It was the dreadful day for many players on September 1st. The last day of training camp, and the day that they are either with the active team or cut and possibly resigned to the 8-man practice squad.

The 49ers waived veterans S Darnell Bing, LB Colby Bockwoldt, T Harvey Dahl, T Damane Duckett, WR Bryan Gilmore, TE Zachery Hilton, DE Sam Rayburn and S Vickiel Vaughn, first-year players FB Zak Keasey and T Tavares Washington and rookies RB Thomas Clayton, TE Zack Herold and LB Mark Washington.

Once those players were cut, some of them were re-signed to the practice squad where they will practice against players from the 53 man roster.  Players on the practice squad also make $4,700 on a weekly basis so that isn’t too shabby!

The players that were signed to the practice squad were, S Darnell Bing, RB Thomas Clayton, T Harvey Dahl, T Damane Duckett, TE Zac Herold, FB Zak Keasey, LB Mark Washington and WR Dominque Zeigler.

Also rookies Jay Moore and Joe Cohen were put on the injured reserve.

The 49ers made some roster moves this week as they continue to trim down the roster as opening weekend will soon be here.  The players not making the roster were four-year veteran LB Roderick Green, second-year WR Marcus Maxwell, first-year players K MacKenzie Hoambrecker, G Nick Steitz, and LB John Syptak and rookies P Ken Parrish, CB Sammy Joseph, FB Steve Dildine, and WR Dominque Zeigler.

The 49ers also placed DE Melvin Oliver and WR C.J. Brewer on the injured reserve list.

First round draft pick Patrick Willis agreed with the 49ers on a contract at the beginning of training camp.  Willis was the last draft pick that the teams needed to sign and they got the deal done so he wouldn’t miss anytime of training camp which is always good for rookies.

Willis (6-1, 242) saw action in 45 games with 22 starts at Mississippi and finished his career with 355 tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception. In his 22 games as the team’s starting middle linebacker, Willis had at least 10 tackles in 19 of those contests. In 2006, he became the first player in Ole Miss history to win the Dick Butkus Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top linebacker. Willis also earned first-team All-SEC and SEC Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday that they have signed fourth-round draft pick Dashon Goldson. Terms of the contract were not announced by the team yesterday.

During his three season career at the University of Washington, Goldson had 194 tackles, four interceptiosn, four fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and 18 passes broken up.

The 49ers have now signed five of their nine draft picks.  Will the others get signed before training camp? Time will only tell!

The 49ers sixth round draft pick, Thomas Clayton has signed a four year contract the team discussed yesterday.  Terms of the deal have not been released however.

Clayton played for the Kansas State Wildcats and rushed for 322 yards last year and three touchdowns on 67 carries.  He only played about half of the 2006 year so that is why his numbers look so low.

I don’t expect Clayton to see much time, maybe some snaps in the preseason but we all know that Frank Gore is the 49ers running back now, and in the future.  So unless there are some freakish injuries I don’t expect Clayton to get much of an opportunity.

The 49ers have signed their first round draftee Joe Staley to what is thought to be a five year contract.  Terms of the contract have not been disclosed as well but I would think Staley will be getting some decent money.

The 49ers have officially signed three of their nine picks. They’ve completed deals with outside linebacker Jay Moore, nose tackle Joe Cohen and cornerback Tarell Brown.

The 49ers have also agreed to terms with two free agents to join the team for training camp next week, according to league sources.  The 49ers will add tight end Zach Hilton and cornerback Markus Curry to their 80-man roster. The moves could be announced as early as today.
