The San Francisco 49ers were looking good through three quarters and part of the fourth quarter however the visiting Philadelphia Eagles did all the scoring in the final quarter and won 40-26. The 49ers gave up 23 points in the 4th quarter as they made costly mistakes and let things get away from them.

J.T. O’Sullivan threw for 199 yards but zero touchdowns and was picked off twice. The costly one that sealed the win for the Eagles came with 38 seconds left in the game. Juqua Parker returned the int 55 yards for a touchdown.

It was nice to see Frank Gore to rush for over 100 yards. I have mentioned before that if Gore could get over the 100 yard mark, the 49ers should win the game. I was wrong with that prediction but Gore did everything he could do to help out the team as he rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries.

Vernon Davis finally had a breakout game as well. Davis caught six balls for 75 yards and awesome as he broke tackles on the plays to pick up extra yards.

Patrick Willis once again led the team with tackles as he finished the game with eight. Takeo Spikes who was cut by the Eagles before joining the 49ers had a good game with seven tackles and one interception.

That is now three straight losses for the niners. The offense isn’t playing that good and the defense is giving up a lot of points as well. Those two things don’t equal wins that is for sure. The 49ers will now be travelling to New York to take on the Giants this coming Sunday. Expect another loss for the niners.

It was a pretty close game through out most of the game on Sunday but the San Francisco 49ers lost to the New England Patriots 30-21. The victory was the Patriots first ever win in San Francisco. With the loss, the 49ers are now 2-3 on the season.

Three interceptions by J.T. O’Sullivan really hurt the offense. He finished the game with just 130 yards on 14 of 29 throwing. That simply isn’t going to get the job done against the Patrios. This was really a game that the niners could have one had they not made the tournovers and got some stops on third downs by the defense.

Patrick Willis led the team with 18 tackles as he was flying all over the place. I was dissappointed in the play of Walt Harris and Nate Clements as they let Randy Moss get deep and score on a 66 yard pass in the first half. The two veterans back there know better then to let Moss catch the ball deep.

Once again the running game was terrible. Frank Gore only rushed for 54 yards on 12 carries. Gore simply isn’t getting the holes that he needs to and is struggling at making guys miss at the line of scrimmage.

Issac Bruce led the 49ers with two touchdown receptions as he finished the game with three catches for 49 yards. You can tell right there how bad the 49ers offense played as Bruce had just three catches in the game.

I really expect another loss for the 49ers this Sunday as they will take on the Philadelphia Phillies. I don’t think the 49ers have enough offense to keep up with the Eagles. I predict the eagles will win this game by 10 points. I don’t want to admit that, but it is just my opinion with how the team is playing right now.

What do you think? Leave us a comment and let us know your prediction or what the 49ers need to change to start winning these games that they should be.

First off I would like to apologize for not having an update up sooner. I was in Lincoln, Nebraska for the Nebraska vs Virginia Tech football game all weekend long and wasn’t even able to watch the 49ers game. Yeah I know, tell me about it.

The niners defense had problems all game long with Saints quarterback Drew Brees as he passed for 363 yards and three touchdowns. To compare that with J.T. O’Sullivans 257 yards and one touchdown with two picks you can see where the Saints won. The niners defense just couldn’t stop the Saints passing attack.

Arnaz Battle led the 49ers receiving corps with seven catches for 120 yards. Issac Bruce caught O’Sullivans only touchdown pass as he hauled in five catches for 54 yards.

Frank Gore ran the ball 16 times for 82 yards but did not score a touchdown. As I have blogged before, if Gore can run for 100 yards and score a touchdown, more then likely the niners are going to get the victory. Lanes just aren’t opening up as much as they need to for Gore to break off any long runs.

Also the offense needs to get Vernon Davis involved more. He only had one catch in the game. Davis can spread the field for the niners but it seems like he only has one or two catches a game. If he is open, O’Sullivan always over throws him deep. That needs to be fixed ASAP.

As for the defense, Michael Lewis led the team with 11 solo tackles. Patrick Willis was right behind him with 9 tackles. Takeo Spikes intercepted one pass while Willis recovered a fumble for the defense.

Joe Nedney kicked three field goals with the longest being of 49 yards. You can really tell how bad the offense was against the Saints when you look and see that Nedney accounted for nine of those 17 points.

Things sure don’t get any better for the 49ers as they will take on the New England Patriots this Sunday. The game will be played at home, but I don’t think it will matter and the Pats will win by 14 points. What do you think about the outcome of the game?

Sorry for not getting this update up on the blog sooner but we have been busy moving the site to a new server and things took longer then we had expected.

Anyways, the 49ers picked up a nice win on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions by the score of 31-13. The offense played good and the defense was very aggresive and caused problems for the Lions all day long.

J.T. O’Sullivan was 16-23 for 189 yards and two touchdowns. It was great to see O’Sullivan not throw an interception and he was only sacked once in the game. He is really starting to make some good decisions out on the field as he gains more experience.

Frank Gore was a beast as he ran for 130 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries. He also caught four balls for another 32 yards. Gore is playing some great football and a lot of that credit has to go to the offensive line who are playing great as well.

Delanie Walker and Issac Bruce both caught touchdowns from O’Sullivan.

On the defensive side of the ball, the 49ers sacked Jon Kitna four times including two from Roderick Green. Justin Smith and Parys Haralson each had one sack as well. Patrick Willis was the leading tackler for the team with six total tackles.

Tarell Brown and Justin Smith both had an interception in the game. Smith was all over the place as he played his best game in a 49er uniform.

There was one terrible injury in the game for the niners as Shawntae Spencer tore his ACL in his left knee. Spencer will be lost for the remainder of the season and will be having surgery this week and placed on injured reserve.

The niners are now 2-1 on the year and will be taking on the New Orleans Saints this weekend. The game will be played in the morning from the Superdome and I expect it to be a tough game for the niners. They will have to get pressure on Drew Brees or it could be a long game for the defense.

It didn’t look good from the start but the San Francisco 49ers battled back and eventually beat the Seattle Seahawks by the score of 33-30 on Sunday afternoon. It was a huge win for the team as they beat a tough team on the road and improved their record to 1-1.

Joe Nedney kicked the game winning 40 yard field goal in overtime for the win. Nedney had a chance at the end of the game to win but his field goal missed and the teams went into overtime.

J.T. O’Sullivan was 20/32 for 321 yards and one touchdown. The big deal with O’Sullivan was that he didn’t throw any interceptions and kept the team in the game even though they were down 14-0 early in the game.

Issac Bruce had a great game with four catches and 153 yards. Bryan Johnson helped out the receiver corps stats with six catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.

The running game was slowed down by the Seahawks defense as Frank Gore only had 61 yards on 19 carries. He did find paydirt once in the game however. Once again, Gore lost a fumble however as he just can’t seem to hold onto the ball a lot of times.

On the defensive side of the ball, Patrick Willis returned an interception back 86 yards for a touchdown. Willis also led the team with 8 tackles which were all solo. The defense sit back and controlled the Seahawks passing game as they only rushed with a four man front most of the game. The plan worked as they caused three tournovers and held down the Seahawks offense just enough to get the victory.

The niners will now play the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. They have a very good shot at winning this game and improving to 2-1 on the season. I look for a 49ers victory by 7-10 points.

49ers Lose to teh Cardinals 23-13The season did not get off to the start that everyone was hoping for as the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Arizona Cardinals 23-13 at home. Five tournovers doomed the 49ers in the game even though the Cardinals only scored once on the tournovers.  They really hurt the offense as it killed drives and allowed the Cardinals to control the entire second half.

The niners only had one possession in the first 28 minutes of the second half. You can’t win a game if your offense isn’t out on the field! The turning point in the second half was when Takeo Spikes muffed a short kickoff by the Cardinals

The 49ers beat the Cardinals on the stats sheet as theyoutgained the Cardinals, 291-285, despite running 28 fewer plays. The 49ers averaged 6.6 yards per play. The Cardinals just 4.4 yards. I can’t but the blame on the defense too much in this game as they at least kept it within 10 points despite the five tournovers.

J.T. O’Sullivan’s two fumbles were costly but he did have a quarterback rating of 80. O’Sullivan finished the game 14/20 and 195 yards while being picked off once. Frank Gore was the leading reciever and rusher for the niners as he had 14 carries for 96 yards and 1 touchdown while adding 4 receptions for another 55 yards.

The 49ers will need to cut down on the mistakes if they want to beat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. It will be another tough divisional game, and the niners need to come ready to play right from the beginning.

Shortly after announced the team cut players to get down to the 53 man limit, the 49ers signed Ahmad Brooks off of the waiver wire. To make room for Brooks on the roster, they released Dontarrious Thomas.

Brooks was a third round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2006 draft. Many people around the league said that Brookes had first round play making capabilities but he did have some character issues that caused his draft stock to drop. He played in 11 games as a rookie and just two last season due to a torn groin muscle.

The 49ers named RB Thomas Clayton, DL Atiyyah Ellison, TE J.J. Finley, LB Larry Grant, DL Louis Holmes and WR Dominique Zeigler to the practice squad. The team has two practice squads remaining to fill.

The San Francisco 49ers have trimmed down their roster to get to the 53 man limit. Transactions could still happen however so even though a player made the cut, they could see themselves being cut or moved to the practice squad if management picks up another player via the waiver wire.

Players that did not make the cut:

WR Ashley Lelie
WR Jerard Rabb
WR Cam Colvin
WR Dominique Zeigler
WR Robert Ortiz
RB Thomas Clayton
FB Moran Norris
TE J.J. Finley
OG Brian de la Puente
OT Alan Reuber
OT Joe Toledo
OT Chris Patrick
DE Walter Curry
NT Atiyyah Ellison
DE LaJuan Ramse
DE Louis Holmes
LB Larry Grant
LB Dennis Haley
CB Markus Curry
S D.J. Parker
K/P Ricky Schmitt

OLB Jay Moore was also added to the injured reserved and will be out for the season. This was the second straight season that Moore was injured in the last preseason game of the year and will have to miss another full season.

ESPN just reported on NFL Live that J.T. O’Sullivan is the leading candidate for the starting quarterback position.  That means O’Sullivan went from third string all the way to first string this quick in camp.  Did he have that good of a camp or did Alex Smith and Shaun Smith just suck that badly?

This comes as a shock to me but if O’Sullivan is playing that much better then Smith, then by all means give him the chance to show what he can do.  Who cares how much the 49ers are spending on Smith start the best player.  Mike Martz says that O’Sullivan knows the offense better then the other two qb’s at this point and that he will continue getting more reps with the number one offense.

So what is your take on all of this niner fans?  Smith or O’Sullivan?

Whats going on 49ers fans? You are all probably wondering where in the hell we have been lol!  Well we have been extremely busy blogging about baseball teams and keeping up on older projects.  It is about time for us to turn more of our attention to our beloved 49ers however.

Training camp has been going on for a little longer then a week now.  Alex Smith has been throwing a ton of balls early in the training camp and was given today off (Friday) to rest his arm a little bit and just give him a breather.  Shaun Hill and J.T. O’Sullivan were the two qb’s that took part in Friday’s practices.  Smith is the front runner but don’t be suprised if he is quickly pulled in favor of Hill in my opinion.

It has also been mentioned that the 49ers defense will not change as far as personnel if they are running a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense.  Justin Smith and Ray McDonald will basically just swap positions out depending on what formation the defense will be running.

I will try to have another update during the middle of next week about how training camp is going.  While I’m away, leave a comment and let us know what you expect out of the niners this season!
